I'm Your Kitchen Buddy, Kara!

Hello You!  I'm so glad you're here! I'm Kara, and I love being your kitchen buddy! I assume we've already met on Facebook, but if not, be sure to join the Prediabetes Support Group (Dietitian Hosted) so you can see tons of great conversations and have support from thousands of people, just like you!  So who am I? I'm a Registered Dietitian, Master Certified Health Education Specialist, mama of two awesome boys, Air Force wife, Star Wars and Disney fan, gamer, meal prepper, house cleaner, and your coffee drinking pal! And I'm here in your corner to help you learn tons of ways to improve your glucose. And hopefully motivate you to take action on the ones that make sense for you!  Helping you find small, sustainable changes is my goal. I want to empower you and help you see that YOU are worth these changes, but these changes don't have to take over your life. There's so much negative messaging out there that makes us feel like you aren't enough. That you have to cut out all carbs, give up all your favorites, move to the point of exhaustion, juggle fifty million things without dropping anything ... or you aren't successful. And that's just a pile of rubbish.  You are amazing! And just the fact that you're here today proves that! So I am going to teach your amazing self what to do to get that glucose back into range! Is it always possible? Absolutely not. There are sometimes factors that are beyond what we can directly impact (hello birthdays!) but that doesn't mean that these small changes are unhelpful.  In fact, these changes can help you live a healthier, hopefully happier life, even if they don't impact your glucose for some reason! (Example: Someone who actually has latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, or LADA, may see only minimal glucose impacts because it's not lifestyle that has a big impact on the development. Most people do see impacts in their glucose by making lifestyle change though!)  So back to who I am: I'm here for you. I promote evidence-based information and focus on small changes to help you succeed. With lots of positivity spread along the way. Because why not? Positivity can only help! :)  So let's get started together on this journey today! Keep moving through these mini lessons throughout your week and implement changes as you go along. Choose small goals to help you stay focused and over time, you'll see the big benefits of those small changes!  Let's do this!
